Capes News – May 2020

2020 Election Results

First of all, a resounding “THANK YOU” to everyone who voted in this year’s election.  Not only did we reach our required goal of 20% participation, but you knocked it out of the park! 155 ballots were returned from the possible 185. That’s a whopping 84% rate of participation! Way to go, Capers!

Secondly, let’s give a big shout out to our four volunteer counters who got up (not too) early and braved the (completely dry and only moderately cool) weather this morning to come down to the Bridge House and tally up all of those votes. Thank you Bob L, Vickie W, Nancy J and Sheila M – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thirdly, the two (2) available board positions will hereby be filled by the two (2) candidates receiving the highest number of votes, as verified by four (4) volunteer counters and the Manager. Without further ado, here are those results:

Ken Bauman: 54 votes

Renata Berry: 49 votes

Cheryl Jones: 105 votes

Gene Mitchell: 101 votes

Based on these outcomes, Cheryl Jones and Gene Mitchell will each serve another 3-year term on the Board of Directors. Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to all four candidates for your willingness to volunteer your time serving our community!

Last, but not least, the Resolution for Revenue Ruling 70-604 was passed with 139 “YES” votes.

Did Someone Say Prizes??

Congratulations to our two “door prize” winners, Tony Merritt and Lyndia Ramsey! Each will be the recipient of a gift certificate from Pacific Restaurant in Tillamook!

The Broom is Back!

Now that we are firmly into the “growing” season here at The Capes, the tell-tale yellow petals of Scotch Broom seem to be popping up everywhere you look. For those who aren’t aware, Scotch Broom is an invasive, noxious weed that will take over the world if you let it. Its seed pods erupt at the end of the summer, and can eject seeds up to 20 feet away from the original plant. Once on the ground, those seeds can survive, dormant for 5-60 YEARS before germinating.

Our landscapers, Ground FX, will be doing their best to eradicate it from the common areas and townhome lots over the next several weeks. All single family homeowners and undeveloped lot owners should check your lots as well, and make arrangements to have any Scotch Broom that you find removed. If you need help finding someone to remove it for you, please contact the office.

Phase 3 Townhome Trim Painting

In spite of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Ofstad Painting assures me that Phase 3 Townhome Trim Painting will go on this summer as scheduled. To refresh your memory (and for those of you who might be new), townhome dues include painting of the white exterior trim every 4 years. Townhomes are divided up into 3 phases, and one phase is painted per year. The 4th year there is no painting done as we begin to rebuild the reserves for the next round. Here are the phases, by lot number:

Phase 1: Lots 3 – 38 (Next painting: 2022)

Phase 2: Lots 39 – 77 (Next painting: 2023)

Phase 3: Lots 78-109 and 173-175 (Next painting: SUMMER OF 2020!)

I do not yet know the exact start date, but will share that information as soon as I have it. It will likely be sometime in June.
