Highway 131 News – Updated 2:20 PM 3/3/2016

road closure

Update – 3/3/2016 @2:20 pm:

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up unnecessarily, but the Tillamook County Pioneer is reporting that Highway 131 will be reopening this afternoon (Thursday, 3/3/2016) or early evening. We’ll let you know if when it happens!

Update – 3/2/2016 @3:45 pm:

The latest prediction in this ongoing Highway 131 road closure saga is that it might reopen sometime on Friday afternoon, 3/4/2016. Apparently the rain we’ve been getting this week has been a hindrance to the placing of the new culvert, so it’s taken longer than anticipated. If the road does indeed open back up on Friday, we’ll let you know! Until then, the Cape Meares Loop detour is still the way to go…

Update – 2/29/2016 @3:00 pm:

According to an article posted by the Tillamook County Pioneer, wet weather has postponed the reopening of Highway 131 in Netarts once again, and they are hoping to have at least one lane open by 2:00 pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/1/2016). One of our Capes homeowners, however, reports that the flaggers working the closure told her on Sunday that the road will not be opened before Wednesday (3/2/2016). I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see who’s right! All I can say for sure right now is that it will NOT be reopening today (Monday, 2/29/2016). For now, please continue to utilize the Cape Meares Loop Road detour.

Update – 2/28/2016 @2:00 pm:

The most recent report from the Tillamook County Pioneer states that they do NOT anticipate getting any portion of Highway 131 open today (Sunday, February 28), but hope to have at least one lane of it opened back up sometime tomorrow. (No more specific timeframe was given.)

Update – 2/26/2016:

Word on the street (haha, get it?) is that the contractors working on the sinkhole repair on Highway 131 in Netarts are running a little bit behind schedule. The road will NOT be reopening today, Friday, 2/26/2016. They are now hoping to reopen one lane with a flagger either tomorrow evening, Saturday, 2/27/2016 or Sunday morning, 2/28/2016.

The Cape Meares Loop detour will continue to be open 24/7 with a pilot car for as long as Highway 131 is closed. As soon as one lane of Highway 131 is opened back up, the detour will be closed.

Update – 2/22/2016:

According to the Tillamook County Pioneer, Highway 131 in Netarts will close at 1pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 2/23/2016) to all vehicular and foot traffic. It will remain closed until at least sometime on Friday (2/26/2016). They anticipate being able to reopen one lane on Friday evening, and having all repairs completed by Monday, 2/29/2016.

As a result, the Cape Meares Loop Road detour will open tomorrow at noon (Tuesday, 2/23/2016) and will remain open 24 hours a day with a pilot car for the duration of the Highway 131 closure.

The good news is, at least the Netarts post office, the coffee shop, Josi’s Bayside Market and the little grocery store whose new name escapes me are on our side of the closure this time! Sadly, the Schooner and Upstairs Bar & Grill are not.
