Capes News – March 2020

Mail Call!

The concrete pad has been poured, and it looks like our mailboxes will be installed within the next couple of weeks! Once the post office maps out who gets which box, people will be able to start signing up to begin their service.  The cost of reserving a box will be $125 – this is a one-time, non-refundable fee payable to the HOA, and will cover your exclusive use of the box for as long as you choose to have mail service. [The purpose of the fee is to cover the cost of purchasing, installing and maintaining the boxes, so that owners who elect not to receive mail at The Capes are not sharing in the expense.] If you sell your property, the use of the box will not convey to the new owner.

Please note: the HOA plans to add more cluster boxes over time as needed, so that any owner who needs mail service will be able to sign up to receive that service at any time going forward. If you do not need mail service now but believe you will need it at some point in the future (whether that be one year, two years, ten years, etc. from now…) you do not need to reserve a box now. You will be able to do so in one year or two years or ten years, when you need it. (Otherwise, it’s just going to sit there filling up with junk mail until you start using it.)

If you are ready to start your mail service at The Capes now and have not already contacted the office to reserve your box, please do so posthaste (haha..see what I did there?) – the box reservation list will be forwarded to the USPS on Monday, 3/9/2020 so that they can decide how best to assign the boxes.

Beach Clean-Up

There’s been a slight scheduling change for our first-ever official SOLVE Adopt-a-Beach clean-up. It will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2020 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. All Capers and their friends and families are welcome (and encouraged) to come and help us keep our little stretch of beach looking beautiful. We will provide trash bags, disposable gloves, safety vests (as supplies last), a first aid kit, a water refill station and snacks. You should bring a reusable water bottle and sunscreen, dress comfortably for the weather (whatever that may be!) and wear closed-toe shoes. If you have any of the following, feel free to bring them along: reusable dish gloves or gardening gloves, old colanders for sifting microplastic from sand, a rake or small shovel, buckets for carrying debris, a grabber tool/litter picker. Young Capers under the age of 15 should be accompanied by an adult.

Please click the link to register if you plan to attend, so that we can track the number of volunteers and purchase supplies accordingly: https://www.solveoregon.org/opportunity/a0C1I00000PsXiA

Annual Meeting

Remember – our annual homeowners meeting will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at 10 am at the Netarts Fire Station meeting room. All Capes owners are invited (and encouraged!) to attend. Meeting packets will be snail-mailed at the end of March, one packet for each LOT. (Meaning if your lot has multiple owners, only one of you will receive the packet and it’s up to you to share it with your co-owners.) If you have a preference as to which owner receives the packet, or if your mailing address has changed since last year’s packet was mailed out, now would be a good time to let the office know. Hope to see you there!

2020 Reserve Study

The updated reserve study for 2020 has been posted to the Owner’s Only section of this website and is available for your review. (A direct link to the document has also been emailed to all Capes owners in the Capes News – March 2020 email sent out on March 6, 2020.) If you have any trouble accessing the document, please contact the office for assistance.

Don’t Forget to Spring Ahead!

Daylight Savings Time begins once again on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 2:00 am. You will lose an hour of sleep, but gain an hour in daylight for those lovely evening beach walks! If you’re not planning to be at The Capes on the 8th, don’t forget to fix your clocks the next time you are here. This is also a great time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and check the expiration dates on any emergency food supplies that you have on hand!
