Capes News – September 2019

It’s Wine Time!

It’s almost here, folks, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the 54th Annual Wine and Cheese Social at the Bridge House! (Ok, maybe it’s not the 54th, but has anyone actually been keeping count?) This is typically our most well-attended event aside from the summer barbecue, probably because of the cheese, right? I mean, who doesn’t love cheese? Anywho…the party will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 4-6 pm. Just bring yourself (plus any family or friends you’ve got lying around) and a bottle of your favorite wine to share, and we’ll provide the rest. Not a fan of wine? No problem – bring whatever adult beverage you like! We’ll also have soda and water available for those who choose not to imbibe. [Side note – we’re down a couple of helpers this year, so if you’ll be around Saturday afternoon and would like to help with set up, please contact the office.]

Fall Clean-Up

Mark your calendars – the Fall Clean-Up starts Friday, October 4, 2019 and runs through Sunday, October 13, 2019. This is your opportunity to do a little yard work without having to worry about what to do with the debris above and beyond the 2 bags per week that the landscapers will take. Josh Vance with His Glory Landscape and Home Maintenance will be organizing the 4 collection sites and the HOA will take care of the disposal fees. There are just a few simple rules:

  1. If you are taking out trees and/or tree limbs, please limit them to those that are 4 inches in diameter or less.
  2. This event is for clean up, not CLEARING. If you have a significant number of trees that you want to remove, you will need to dispose of them at your own expense. Our budget can not handle the disposal of an entire forest – sorry!
  3. Debris must be taken to one of the 4 collection sites below, and placed between the orange stakes. (Here’s a map of the sites: https://www.thecapeshoa.org/documents/forms-and-information/Clean%20Up%20Location%20Map.pdf)
    • The front of Lot #115 on Fall Creek Drive. (East side of the road near the fire lane)
    • The Meadow (where Capes Drive, Capes Loop and Capes Point all come together)
    • Tract F on Capes Drive (the northernmost point of Capes Drive, right at the point where the road makes a 180° turn)
    • Tract N on Promontory Lane (at the base of the really steep hill)

If for some reason you need Josh to collect debris directly from your lot, it is your responsibility to contact him and let him know (hisglorylandscapecare@gmail.com). If the debris meets the criteria for items #1 and 2 above (it’s less than 4 inches in diameter and is not a significant number of trees) he will still include it with the HOA disposal items, however, you will be billed for any time/labor charges incurred while collecting the debris from your property. Our contract/arrangement with Josh is for setting up and clearing the 4 collection areas only. Anything above and beyond that requested by a homeowner will need to be done at that homeowner’s expense.

Last Call for Driveway Seal Coating

Northwest Asphalt will be coming out this fall to seal coat driveways for those who need it. The cost will be $0.20 per square foot, and NW Asphalt will bill you directly. As of right now we are looking at September 18 and 19 (weather permitting, as always!) so please contact the office no later than Friday, September 13th if you would like to sign up.

September Office Closures

The Homeowners Association office will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 for the Labor Day holiday. If you typically receive dues reminders via email, these will go out on Tuesday, September 3 when the office reopens.

Later in the month, the office will be closed from Wednesday, September 18 through Sunday, September 29, 2019 while the Manager is on vacation. (Sorry Capers, but when the opportunity to visit Peru comes up, you take it!) If you find you need assistance that can’t wait until September 30th, please call our answering service at 503-842-8777 and leave a message or send an email to Manager@TheCapesHOA.org, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If you already know you will need something during that time period, please let the Manager know ASAP so that arrangements can be made ahead of time.
