Open Positions on The Capes Board of Directors

As mentioned in the January news update, the 2016 Annual Homeowners Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the meeting room at the Netarts Fire Hall (1235 5th St. Loop in Netarts) starting at 10:00 am. One of the important items on the meeting agenda will be the election of Directors.

Terms are ending for three of our current Board members, which means there will be three empty seats to fill. All three seats are for 3-year terms. Could one of those seats have your name on it?

If you are a go-getter who is interested in helping to effect positive change within the community by serving on the Board, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Declare your intent – The first thing to do is notify the Board President and/or the Resident Manager of your intention to run for an available position. You can do this by mail, email or in person. Your intention to run must be received before the conclusion of the February 20, 2016 board meeting. All homeowners who will be running will be announced at the board meeting on February 20, 2016. Here is the contact information for declaring your intent to run:

  • Prepare and submit a Candidate Statement – Each candidate should prepare a statement explaining why you would like to be on the Board. The statement should be 250 words or less, and should be mailed, emailed or delivered to the Resident Manager no later than 5:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016. All collected statements will be submitted to the current Board at their regular meeting on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
  • Attend the Annual Meeting on April 16, 2016 – Candidates will be introduced to the owners and will have the opportunity to read their candidate statements prior to the vote. After the vote, ballots will be tabulated, and the candidates with the three highest number of votes will be certified as Board members. [NOTE: IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL MEETING, YOU CAN STILL RUN FOR THE BOARD. Attending the meeting just gives candidates the opportunity to introduce themselves to the owners before the vote.]
If you have any questions at all, either about being on the board and what that entails, or about the election process, please do not hesitate to ask. Annual Meeting materials (including the all-important absentee ballots for those owners who will be unable to attend the April meeting but still want to vote) will be mailed out towards the end of March. The office will send out an email once they’re on the way, so you can keep an eye out.
